The finished products, installed in the boathouse! They wound up being perfectly sized to accommodate the various commonly used spars. On the left side of the rack is the rigging for the 50-year-old Sunfish against the wall ($50 at the town garage sale a few years ago, though it needed some fiberglass patching to stay afloat). Next are the spars for the Laser (our decent sailboat), then the mast for our windsurfer (vintage, and $100 at a different garage sale), then the sail for my dad’s sailing kayak (which is under the tarp). He got that from an old man who built it himself years ago. I don’t know how much he payed, but to give you some idea of the condition: I have fond memories of sailing with him as a child. He always took me along, in part because there was a leak around the daggerboard trunk forward of the bow seat and he needed someone to sop up water every few minutes. (And, you know, he probably also enjoyed sailing with me…)
